Replace “N” with “U” in ArcGIS North Arrow

How to Customize North Arrow in ArcGIS? That question may bear in your mind. People who are dealing with ArcView know how to customize north arrow in ArcView. We can simply righ-click on it and convert to graphic. In ArcGIS, it is a bit complicated because ArcGIS use FONT as north arrow . Here are the steps how to customise north arrow in ArcGIS.
1. Backup file esri_40.ttf
Go to C:\WINDOWS\Fonts (or any directory you install window). Find esri_40.ttf and paste it in a save place as a backup. If you can not find the file, you can find the name of the font of ESRI North (TrueType).
2. Edit file esri_40.ttf
Edit C:\WINDOWS\Fonts\esri_40.ttf with Advanced Font Viewer 5.1.Googling the software from internet. I did edit the file, I replaced N (north) with U (Utara, means north in Bahasa Indonesia). We can customize as we want.
3. Test the display in ArcGIS layout
Open ArcGIS > Layout > Insert North Arrow. If you see ”north arrow’ you want means you made it. Congratulation! Below is the screenshot of my north arrow.
